Professional

There comes a time when you have to grow up, or at least look like you've grown up. Recently I have been presented with a possible great opportunity. An opportunity that has got me thinking about how I present myself. I am not always the most 'put together' person. Actually I could use a good polishing. Starting one small step at a time, I should be able to seamlessly integrate a new image.

I am starting with a basic makeup kit and plan next for an amazing hair cut and color. It's not so much the products needed but more the time put into the look. Not being a morning person, it will be difficult to put in the extra time.

We'll see how the first two steps go. The third is going to focus on wardrobe. Finding clothes that work with my body even though it's not my ideal size, and affordable, is not going to be easy.

One step at a time.

Happy Easter!

Nothing much

Nothing much has happened lately. Oddly enough though I feel like I'm always trying to catch up. Not just at work, but at home too. Once one task is done another pops up or it's time to do the same task again. For example: laundry and dishes. After being washed you put the dishes away just to pull them out of the cupboard again. Clothes are folded and put away just to be put on again. It looks nice with everything put away but it's seems like pointless acts. Meaningless mind-numbing acts.

Living the dream I guess. At least I have clothes to wash.

A Gig

Was offered a gig today to make about 32 little doggie statues for a dog show in November. They want to know how much I would want. I have no idea.

I am pretty much known for selling myself short. I don't want to over charge and lose the job but yet I want to be paid well for my time. Would it be better to figure an hourly rate or piece rate? Would they work out to be the same? I don't think so.

The things are a pain to make. Not physically but mentally. It takes an hour just to form the thing and another hour to bake then half an hour to paint. And then multiply that by 32?! Well, that's not entirely true. The hour bake time would only happen 3 times, 2 batches of 12 and then a batch of 8. That is 3 hours. 32x.5=16. 16+32+3=51. 51x$20=$1020. That ain't gonna happen. $10 a piece? That would be $320 plus materials. Call it $400. Maybe.

I will do research on trophy budgets for dog shows. Speaking of looking stuff up, Mom brought up dual registering Flint to get her Canadian championship since we are pretty close to Canada. Sounds fun but I got to figure out how to go about that.

Anyone have any hair-brained schemes for making extra money? And by hair-brained I mean legit? I am lacking vital showing tools but also the funds. My birthday is coming up. Maybe I can use some birthday money to get a grooming table or blow dryer. Wish I could get both but they are around $200 each. We'll see.

For now I have my sights set on two upcoming shows in May. And now it's Grey's Anatomy time. I know, how cheesy.

Typing in the dark

Downloaded the blogger app. This should help me keep on top of this blogging thing. Right now I am typing in bed about to go to sleep. Really I am going to watch Grey's Anatomy on Netflix after I'm done.

I like to think I can write. Whether that is true or not is your call. I sometimes consider writing something big. Not a book, at least not a novel. Too much character develop and story lined to keep straight. I've considered a children's book. That should be fun but have no idea of the story. There are a couple of ideas swirling around in my head. Both about dogs on a farm. Samoyeds in particular.

A samoyed's tail curls over its back. I thought it might be fun for a dog to go around a barnyard explaining why each animal's tail is why it is. Problem is, I can't yet think of a good explanation for why a sammie's tail curls over its back.

The other thought is about a dog that goes missing and while its family is looking for it, it goes on all sorts of adventures.

Just some thoughts.

Home

We are heading home in about two hours. We haven't been back in almost two years. Our flight is so early we aren't going to bed until we get on the plane. Then maybe we'll get a couple hours shut eye, probably not and it won't be comfortable.

We are taking a cat with us as well. Before we had moved out here, we took my sister's cat, Mystic, in as a buddy for Bailey our cat. My sister's house was shrinking really fast with two dogs, two cats, two kids and another on the way. Unfortunately one of her dogs passed away last year so they have room again. Mystic and Bailey weren't the best of friends so I think he'll be fine. I've never flown with an animal, we'll see how this goes.

In other news, still hunting. Sent some follow up emails and also applied at a couple more places. I've only heard back from one. Hopefully more will reply.

Made snicker doodles yesterday. They turned out ok. My husband tells me that they are suppose to be a "crispy cookie" but crispy wasn't what I was going for. This batch turned out a lot better than the last I made a couple weeks ago. Apparently when baking, your butter cannot be totally liquid when you add it to the batter. If you do, your cookies will spread and turn into paper cookies that are about 1/32" thick. I still ate them.

Irrigation & Applications

Teeth check-up today, all is good and healing well. They irrigated my sockets to help with healing and keep away infection. Basically they take a syringe full of water and squirt in the sockets so the bits of food come out. The taste is still horrible.

Applied to a few more places today. Haven't heard any replies so sent follow up emails. A little discouraging. I don't expect any replies now until Tuesday since Monday is a holiday. Also, posted a couple listings on craigslist to drum up some freelance.

Almost done reading the Suze Orman book, "The Money Book for the Young Fabulous & Broke." A very informative book! It's packed full of information and puts terms in an easy to digest format. The book is mainly Q&A but she also lays it all out there. I will admit that a lot of her ideas are polar opposites to Dave Ramsey, so reading it made me feel a little guilty but I am seeing there is more than one way to solve a problem. You have to find what fits your situation best.
